Four amazing tips for using hair oil to get your healthiest and longest hair!

Four amazing tips for using hair oil to get your HEALTHIEST and LONGEST hair!

Clients are always asking me how to get their hair to grow longer and healthier. Most asked question in all my years of doing hair! Hair oiling has been practiced for thousands of years and is an Ayurvedic staple for long lush locks. There are different ways to use oil for hair and scalp health, and I will get into the details below. Try some of these practices consistently and you will be shocked and amazed at the results.

1. OIL THOSE ENDS! Before you go to bed, take a very small amount of hair oil on the tips of your fingers and run it over the ends of your hair. Use your palms and fingers to then smooth the oil along the length of your hair, concentrating on the ends. Enough to add a bit of moisture and supple feeling, but not enough to make your hair appear oily. Less is more with this practice. For thicker and courser hair types, you can add a bit more but always start small and work up. This helps prevent breakage while you sleep that makes you lose length!

2. MASSAGE THAT SCALP! Another amazing practice with hair oil is a daily scalp massage. Taking a small amount of oil on the tips of the fingers, put your head upside down between your knees and let your hair hang down. Start to massage your scalp from the neck toward the forehead with enough pressure to create a relaxing sensation. This practice stimulates the blood flow to the hair follicles, and helps get rid of dry scalp that may be blocking hair follicles and sebum production.  My favourite practice is listening to music while I do the scalp massage, then brush my hair while my head is still upside down. This distributes the oil to the ends and sluffs off any dry scalp. Consistency is key!

3. WARM IT UP! Warm oil treatments are an excellent way to moisturize and revitalize dull dry locks. After washing, add hair oil to your favourite conditioner and massage from roots to tips. Cover your hair with a plastic cap and let the oil sit for 15-30 minutes. Cover with a hot towel or warm with your blow dryer. The warmth opens up the cuticle and lets the oil better penetrate the hair shaft. To seal in the treatment, rinse with cold water to close the hair cuticle at the end of the 30 minutes.

4. TREAT YOURSELF! Another incredibly relaxing option, is to book a treatment appointment, and come to the studio for a wash, where I will do a thorough wash, and then scalp massage with deep penetrating conditioning treatment and Love My Magic Hair and Scalp Oil. Then you will relax under the warm dryer and enjoy a tea and magazine while your hair soaks up all the nourishing goodness!
